Every race, every candidate

All 319 candidates on the Secretary of State's official list for federal, statewide and legislative offices, each with a profile page. County offices are listed on each county page.

INCOMPLETE: Every Senate and House district has candidates on the official list, but (1) only the 23 statewide and U.S. House candidates have any researched background; the other 296 pages say so. (2) The official file is in ALL CAPITALS, so we set normal capitalization; a few names with inner capitals (for example La-, De-, Di-, Mc-) may differ from your ballot. (3) Rachel Shaw is on the official list twice, for Secretary of State and for State Senate, Bennington District; she has one profile page. (4) Write-in candidates, justices of the peace and town, city and school races are not on the list we used.

Statewide offices and U.S. House

Vermont elects six statewide officers: governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, treasurer and auditor of accounts. All six are on the ballot, along with the state's one U.S. House seat. No U.S. Senate seat is up. State judges are appointed by the governor, but county probate judges and assistant judges are elected.

U.S. House

Vermont's one vote in the U.S. House. House members write and vote on federal laws, taxes and spending, and every bill to raise taxes has to start in the House.

State Senate

Your district's vote in the Vermont Senate. Senators write and vote on state laws and the state budget.

All 30 state Senate seats are on the ballot; senators serve two-year terms. Some districts elect two or three senators. Races with one candidate are still on the ballot.

State House

Your district's vote in the Vermont House of Representatives. Members write and vote on state laws and the state budget.

All 150 state House seats are on the ballot; members serve two-year terms. Some districts elect two members. Races with one candidate are still on the ballot.
