Proposed Constitutional Amendments
Every Virginia voter decides these 3. Each page has the official ballot title word for word, what a yes or no vote does, and links to the full text.
- Question 1: Right to reproductive freedom Right to reproductive freedom, including abortion, in the state constitutionmajority to pass
Biggest change: Adds a "fundamental right to reproductive freedom" covering prenatal care, childbirth, postpartum care, birth control, abortion, miscarriage management and fertility care..
- Question 2: Marriage Remove the same-sex marriage ban from the state constitutionmajority to pass
Biggest change: Deletes the words saying only a union of one man and one woman may be a valid marriage, and the ban on civil unions or other legal statuses like marriage..
- Question 3: Right to vote, and voting after a felony Right to vote in the constitution; voting rights come back automatically after prisonmajority to pass
Biggest change: Every person who meets the voter qualifications "shall have the fundamental right to vote in the Commonwealth, and such right shall not be abridged by law," with two exceptions..
All three were placed on the ballot by the General Assembly, which passed each one twice, and amend the Virginia Constitution. Each passes with a simple majority of the votes cast on it. Source: Department of Elections: proposed constitutional amendments brochure (PDF) .
