U.S. Senate

What this job does

One of South Carolina's two votes in the U.S. Senate. Senators write and vote on federal laws, taxes and spending, and approve or reject the president's picks for federal judges, the Supreme Court and the Cabinet. A term is six years. source: usa.gov

Lindsey Graham (Republican) won this seat's primary in June 2026 but died on July 11, 2026. Gov. Henry McMaster appointed Graham's sister, Darline Graham Nordone (Republican), to serve the rest of the term, which ends in January 2027. Graham Nordone then won a special Republican primary runoff on Aug. 25 to be the party's nominee. Tim Scott (Republican) holds the other seat, which is not up this year.
