Every race, every candidate

All 148 candidates on the Secretary of State's official list for federal, statewide and legislative offices, each with a profile page. County and local races are on your sample ballot.

Not in this guide: North Dakota District Court judge races (Nos. 1 to 11), county offices (commissioner, sheriff, State's Attorney, auditor, recorder, treasurer, clerk of court, official newspaper), soil conservation district supervisors and Garrison Diversion directors. They are on the Secretary of State's list but we did not build pages for them. Check your sample ballot. Even-numbered legislative districts are not up this year, except the special House races in Districts 20, 26 and 42.

Statewide offices and courts

The Secretary of State's 2026 General Election candidate list has no Governor or U.S. Senate contest. It does list U.S. Representative, Secretary of State, Attorney General, Agriculture Commissioner, Tax Commissioner, Superintendent of Public Instruction (an unexpired 2-year term), two Public Service Commissioner races and two Supreme Court races. Names and parties are as printed on that list. The list does not mark write-ins or withdrawals.

U.S. House

North Dakota's one vote in the U.S. House. House members write and vote on federal laws, taxes and spending. Every tax bill has to start in the House. A term is two years.

State Senate

Your district's vote in the North Dakota Senate. Senators write and vote on state laws and the state budget. Each district has one senator.

North Dakota has 47 Senate districts, each with one senator. The Secretary of State's 2026 General Election candidate list has Senate races for 24 districts, the odd-numbered ones 1 through 47, so those are the seats on the ballot. The even-numbered districts are not up. The list does not mark write-ins or withdrawals.

State House

Your district's two votes in the North Dakota House of Representatives. Members write and vote on state laws and the state budget and can send constitutional amendments to voters.

North Dakota has 94 House seats, two for each of the 47 districts (District 4 is split into 4A and 4B in the Census map). The Secretary of State's 2026 General Election candidate list has House races for the 24 odd-numbered districts (two seats each), plus unexpired 2-year-term races in Districts 20, 26 and 42. The other districts are not up. The list does not mark write-ins or withdrawals.
