What this job does

One of Florida's two votes in the U.S. Senate. Senators write and vote on federal laws, taxes and spending, and approve or reject the president's picks for federal judges, the Supreme Court and the Cabinet. This race fills the last two years of a six-year term. source: usa.gov

This is a special election for the rest of the term that Marco Rubio left in January 2025 to become Secretary of State. Ashley Moody (Republican) was appointed to the seat. Rick Scott (Republican) holds the other seat, which is not up this year.
